This is a procedure in which a pair of wires are embedded deep within the brain and connected to a device called a neurostimulater. Sometimes referred to as a brain pacemaker, the device is implanted somewhere accessible in the body and controlled remotely, like a television.

DBS can be effective in controlling severe tremors. The outcome relies heavily on correctly identifying the locations in the brain that are causing the problem and the accurate placement of the electrodes. The procedure is also used for other conditions, such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
